Scrappy Sunday – 18 Month Layout

For today’s layout I wanted to do something to help remember the everyday for Amelia.  There are so many milestones as our babies grow up, but it is the little things I want to remember as well.  Those little adorable crazy faces she makes or her favourite food at the moment.  So, I did an 18 month layout of a day Amelia and I were hanging out by ourselves and she was goofing around with a mini slinky.  The title of the layout was…

She was wearing her little Tommy Hilfiger dress that was black & white with red.  I didn’t have many embellishments in those colours so instead of running to the store, I thought I would just make my own.  So much faster and cheaper that way.  The first thing I did was take a couple white paper doilies and rub the outside edges right onto a red ink pad.

I didn’t really have any black and white paper either but I did have some mistables paper from Pink Paislee.  It had a cute chevron pattern and I took my black ink pad right to it and just rubbed it on until the paper was covered.   I took a paper towel to rub off the excess and voila, the pattern appeared.

Here is the entire 18 month layout.  I added some pretty pins and a flower from Webster’s Pages.  The black flowers I had in my stash (luckily) but I am not sure where they are from.

Here is the left side.  Check out those adorable faces she makes, haha.

Here is the right side, with Amelia’s foot covering part of it, the little stinker.  God forbid I should be trying to do something without her.  She just had to involve herself some how :).  I used a lot of vintage items in this layout such as the red buttons, the old flash card and an old explosives card for the Pennsylvania Railway (I ordered a bunch of cool cards off of e-bay for my art).

Here is the card that her foot was covering.  Just a few things I thought we might want to remember as she gets older.

Hopefully these are things she will want to know as she gets older as well and let her know how much she is loved.

Scrappy Sunday – DIY Washi Tape

This week I went ultra creative and made my own DIY Washi Tape.

I wanted to scrapbook Amelia’s pictures in her little knit hat she came home from the hospital in.  It is purple with a little grey felt flower.  I was struggling with finding supplies to match.  So, off I went to CaFabrik in Aylmer to see if anything jumped out at me.  I found some beautiful full page size die cuts from Making Memories.  I also picked up some beautiful sculpture peonies in a few different purples from Donna Downey’s line with Prima.  What I really wanted was washi tape but couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for.  Not even in the same colour scheme.  So, I thought, why not try and make some myself.

I gathered my supplies, masking tape, silver and purple ink and a couple stamps I thought would go well with the paper….

I took a length of masking tape and stuck it to my paper cutter as I knew it could be easily peeled off.  I then took my round stamp into the silver ink and applied it evenly spaced across the tape.  I wiped off the stamp overage with a baby wipe. (Always handy to keep those nearby)

I then took a smaller stamp in my purple ink and applied it in between the circles.  It is kind of hard to see as the lighting wasn’t great and the colours were pretty subtle.  I just wanted a little something to cut up the circles and provide a background to my trim.

I then removed it from my paper trimmer and applied it directly to the paper, voila, DIY Washi Tape.

I matted the pictures in silver card stock.

Even in the close-ups it is hard to see.  Next time I experiment with it I will try brighter colours.

I love the wood grain purple tag.  I can’t even remember where I got it.  Just found it in my stash.

Next week I might try and get a layout done from our camping trip this weekend.  We had such a great time and even saw a deer pretty close-up.  Very cool.

Bird Layout for Scrappy Sunday

This week I decided to do a bird layout for Scrappy Sunday.  Amelia is totally into birds (as was her big sister Milah at her age) and I thought I should do a layout about it so when I am old and grey and can’t remember the details of when she was a baby, I wouldn’t need to.

I started with the sketch challenge from Jen over at the Scrapbox.

The pictures are from the our visit to the Biodome in Montreal.  She was absolutely loving all of the birds there, especially the penguins.  One of them was following her through the glass.

I used an old time card to journal on.

As you can see it isn’t exactly as the sketch, I just used it for inspiration.

The “giggle” title is from Me & My Big Ideas.

Aren’t all the little birdies cute?  They are from Micheal’s Recollection, along with the layered flower that I stuck a bird on.

All done and I had some of the gorgeous polka dot paper left so I must go make a piece with it for the show on Saturday.  Stay tuned…

Scrappy Easter Sunday

Time for Scrappy Easter Sunday.  So, what are these paint chips for you ask? A few weeks ago my friend Brittany asked me to go to Rona with her to get paint for their new house which they are renovating.  I found these great large paint chips and knew there was something I could do with them.  I used them as background papers for Amelia’s 6 month layout.

The background paper with the stitched tree and house is from K & Company, isn’t it lovely??

The birds were made from my Stampin Up! paper punch.  One of them I punched from a multi-striped paint chip.

I rounded the corners of my background papers and my pictures because the paint chip corners were rounded.  I used an old Creative Memories Corner Maker that I have had for over a decade.  Still works like a charm.

The gorgeous flower is from Webster’s Pages.  I think I need to try making some of those on my own.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend and you get some time to yourself to create!!

It’s Sunday, so you know what’s up… Ultrasound Layout

Scrappy Sunday is what is up.  I am not totally thrilled about my layout today, but it is what it is.  It is the second and third page to Amelia’s ultrasound pictures from when I was pregnant.  The first page I posted a while back here.

I used the same colour scheme and flowers as the first.  I wanted to use black to balance out the actual ultrasound pics again.  Here are the two pages together.  I included pictures of me at 3 and 6 months along with the ultrasound pictures.  I was a high risk pregnancy so I was lucky in that I got a lot of ultrasounds.  So, I got to see Amelia growing fairly regularly.  It was great!!!

I spread my title over the two pages and used one of my alphabet stamp sets and some rub-ons from Basic Grey to spruce it up a bit.  I even included a picture of the pregnancy test with the positive result…

And lots of flowers (with some brads and pearls for the centres) from my stash to make it girly…

Almost finished my journal, so I shall post it soon!!

Scrappy Sunday – Baby Layout

It’s Scrappy Sunday time again and I am posting another baby layout!!

This week I went to a crop at the local Ottawa scrapbooking store The Scrapbox.  Jen, the owner, is always so sweet and helpful that I had been wanting to go for a while and just finally did.  Everyone was so friendly, it was great.  I worked on my art journal cover and got this baby layout done of Amelia when she was 3 months old.

I wanted the main colour scheme scheme to be teal and that vibrant pink.  As you can see, it is the colour of her dress and my shirt.

All of the metal embellishments are from the Ambrosia Trinkets set that I believe was just released at CHA by Bo Bunny.  Jen had just gotten her order in and they hadn’t even been put out yet.

I took a paper distresser to the picture frames and title circle, then applied some brown ink so you could see it a little better.

I then went through my stash of leftover papers to find some in the colour scheme and used different sized punches to make the circle border that runs along the bottom of the photos.  Such a great way to use up scraps.

The adorable pink rosette trim is called bloomers and is from Webster’s Pages.  I have it in a few different colours and have been dying to use them.  You would think I was sponsored by Webster’s the amount I mention them, haha.

Another layout done for the baby book.  YEY!!!

Scrappy Sunday – Circus Themed Birthday

Circus Themed Birthday

Our little Amelia just turned a year old last week and I decided to do a circus theme.  My inspiration for the colours came from this Lion Coffee which was given to us by my sister in law.

I made a circus banner out of cardstock…

and some tissue paper balls (for which I have found a quick Youtube tutorial here for you).  I only used 5 sheets of tissue and then cut it in half once I had folded it all up.  I also just used fishing line to tie them up so they looked like they were floating.

I got some old school popcorn and hot dog containers from the dollar store.

Along with some plastic animals to decorate the cupcakes and cake with.

I used some scrapbook paper to create the cones for the home made sweet potatoe and regular fries.

Circus Themed Scrapbook Layout

As this was such a big event I decided to dedicate three pages to it instead of the usual two.  I printed my photos at home onto matte paper and they don’t seem as nice.  Maybe I need to try a new brand.

I used the decor from the party for accents in the layouts.  I also tried to tone down the colour a bit with a little black scattered throughout.  I even took my new chicken wire stamp and applied it to the background in some areas and did a little doodling.

Boy, lots of pics today.  Have a great week!!!!

Introducing Scrappy Sundays!!

Welcome to my first Scrappy Sundays project!

So, I have three daughters for whom I am trying to document their lives through scrapbooks, just so they know how much they are loved and appreciated. However, I have been falling behind with this. So in order to keep myself on task, I am going to institute Scrappy Sundays which will force me to get at least one layout done a week that I will then post here on my blog.  This will hold me accountable and hopefully inspire you as well.  These are my firsts…

I have actually done a couple but they are 8X8 size pages.  It is a baby scrapbook I am doing for my step-daughter.  Unfortunately I did not know her as a baby.  I am hoping through her book I will get to see her personality developing and all the things I missed.
