I have been a little MIA lately as I had an unexpected health issue that required emergency surgery. I am sure I shall share more later once there has been a little more healing. In the meantime, I hope to do some with my art. This is the first day I have been able to do anything for any length of time (although it had to be done sitting). I thought I would do a Sunday Journal (on Monday) and check in with my word of the year (WOTY). I want to do this once a month to try and remind myself to keep on track.
A lot of people like to gesso their pages before starting in their art journals but I like that the original pages show through, most of the time anyway. Adds depth and another layer. For the base of the pages I used an October Afternoon Sprinkler from their Sidewalk collection over a stencil. The colour is called “Miss Mary Mack”, love the colour and the name.
I cut out a head and shoulders from watercolour paper (because it was close by) and some frames from the Amy Tangerine collection of scrapbooking paper at American Crafts. I then pulled out an alphabet stencil and sprayed a bit of walnut ink on it so it didn’t look too sweet and pastelly (that’s a word right? In my dictionary next to it would read “an abundance of pastel colours”, haha).
Here is the finished piece.
I chose to use the quote “Growth means change and change involves risk, stepping from the known to the unknown”. I pulled my container of alphabet stickers out and used different sets for each word. I even wrote one in. I wanted change to stand out so I used scrabble tiles for that one.
For the representation of myself, I used a fluid acrylic for my hair in a brown and black colour, wrote change in again on the body and added a bird atop my head who is waiting to take flight…
Which is what I am hoping to do this year :) Wish me luck!
