Tomorrow is our Canadian Thanksgiving. Which got me thinking how much I have to be thankful for. My amazing and supportive family (Chris and the girls), the opportunity to be living my dream (even if it is not exactly where it needs to be) and my friends (especially Jen who is making Thanksgiving dinner). Which further got me thinking that I don’t have a Thanksgiving Hostess gift for her.
Since they just moved into their home I thought it would be cute to make them a fall themed embroidery hanging. I cut out a piece of linen and put it into an embroidery hoop. It, of course, had to have a pumpkin which I drew out in pencil first. I used a couple different colours of orange to give it some depth.
Once I had painted the whole pumpkin (the linen really soaks up the paint btw), I embroidered everything with a bit of a different toned floss then the original paint colour to give depth again. I even used baker’s twine for the stem.
I thought I would add an “H” for their last name Holmes. I used an ombre effect black/grey floss which didn’t turn out as great as I liked but as the dinner is tomorrow, it shall have to do, haha.
Once I was all done with the embroidery I hot glued the back linen to the frame and trimmed the excess.
Then a hanging loop with some twine and a couple of floss pieces I had used.
Hopefully Jen knows how much I appreciate not having to make Thanksgiving dinner. I will also be bringing my cheesy leeks, wine and fresh bread. That might help get the point across. I trust my fellow Canadians are having an amazing long weekend. The weather here has been amazing!!
