Easter, as always a visit to the zoo

So, we are in Peterborough for Easter, as always a visit to the zoo is necessary.  It is open year round and is free.  Can you believe it?  The girls always love to head down there.  The weather was beautiful so off we went.  Father and son (so handsome :)…

The crazy turkeys, their feathers are so cool…

 The spitting camel…
The girls on the fake camel (which has seen better days)…

The ostrich had laid the most beautiful eggs…

The peacocks feathers were so amazing…

Scrappy Sunday – It’s Almost Easter!!

This one is a little late as I had a day of shopping in Montreal, so awesome!!! Car full of girls, some great clothing stores and sushi for lunch.  What more could you ask for?

Today’s Scrappy Sunday layout was loosely based on the second sketch for March from the Scrapbox.

Since it is almost Easter I thought I should scrapbook last year’s celebration.  Instead of using circular shapes for the centre and right, I chose squares.

 One page at a time…

It is always a good idea to ground your photos with a solid coloured border when you have patterned papers in your layout.

The cut out flowers and eggs were from a digital download on itkupilli’s shop.  She has some adorable Easter stuff.

This layout has gotten me excited for this weekend and the kid’s big Easter egg hunt.  Have a great short week everyone!

It’s that time again – Scrappy Sunday – School Layout

For this Scrappy Sunday post I am still working on Milah’s school pictures.  This layout was done of her grade 3 picture.  I couldn’t find the one of her class but I had a few pictures of her with the Earth Care Club.  That was a huge part of her year and consumed alot of her recesses so I figured it was just as important to get in there.

I added some interest and texture by taking a strip of paper and folding it accordian style…

and I used a pearl for the period in Gr. 3…

I was trying to use up stuff I had around the house so I can’t even tell you where any of the supplies are from.  I do know that the little trees are a two step stamping set from Stampin Up!  Happy scrapping everyone!

PS.  You can now subscribe to my blog posts, WOOOO!!!  Just head up to the right hand corner and enter your e-mail address.

Birthday Encaustic Class

Milah’s birthday was on Monday so we had our family celebration on Saturday, which was St. Paddy’s Day.  Of course the theme was all things green.  Our Ottawa family came for brunch and instead of typical birthday hats I had all sorts of green accessories for the kids to wear.  Here is the crew in their gear.

and our little Amelia with her little hat…

I don’t think she is too impressed with having to wear it, what do you think? hahaha!! She almost looks pained.

The guest of honour blowing out her candle…

For one of her gifts I decided she deserved a birthday encaustic class as she has been getting back into art lately.  I also thought it would be fun to have a mother daughter art day.  So, off we went on Sunday to St. Elmos Fire for the afternoon encaustic workshop.  I am not sure who was more excited, haha.  Here are our pieces..

This is mine, which I am not totally happy with.  It is my first one though so I am trying to be easy on myself.

This is Milah’s, which turned out awesome.  I was so proud.

I absolutely loved the process.  All the layering of the pieces and the wax.  It is hard to see but the wax creates such dimension, it is pretty cool.  You can get all kinds of texture in it, then highlight it with oil paints.

Christina was great as usual but made me totally comfortable with wanting to try this at home.  I have always been scared of fumes and such, but as long as you do it properly and have some sort of ventilation, all is well.  Not that I will rush out and get all the supplies tomorrow, but one day :)

Scrappy Sunday Layout

For today’s Scrappy Sunday layout I took my inspiration from Jen at The Scrapbox.  Every month she puts out an inspiration challenge in her newsletter then asks people to drop them by the store for all to see.  At the end of the month she does a draw for free stuff I believe, then you get your layouts and/or cards back.  Great idea!!!  Here is the one page layout that I used for this week…

This is what mine looked like…

I never do one page layouts so I turned it into a two page layout.

I thought I would continue to work on Milah’s school pictures.

A few close-ups of the embellishments…

The title and paper cut outs were done with my Cricut, such a handy machine!

Another layout done, WOOOO!!!

It’s Sunday, so you know what’s up… Ultrasound Layout

Scrappy Sunday is what is up.  I am not totally thrilled about my layout today, but it is what it is.  It is the second and third page to Amelia’s ultrasound pictures from when I was pregnant.  The first page I posted a while back here.

I used the same colour scheme and flowers as the first.  I wanted to use black to balance out the actual ultrasound pics again.  Here are the two pages together.  I included pictures of me at 3 and 6 months along with the ultrasound pictures.  I was a high risk pregnancy so I was lucky in that I got a lot of ultrasounds.  So, I got to see Amelia growing fairly regularly.  It was great!!!

I spread my title over the two pages and used one of my alphabet stamp sets and some rub-ons from Basic Grey to spruce it up a bit.  I even included a picture of the pregnancy test with the positive result…

And lots of flowers (with some brads and pearls for the centres) from my stash to make it girly…

Almost finished my journal, so I shall post it soon!!

Scrappy Sunday – Baby Layout

It’s Scrappy Sunday time again and I am posting another baby layout!!

This week I went to a crop at the local Ottawa scrapbooking store The Scrapbox.  Jen, the owner, is always so sweet and helpful that I had been wanting to go for a while and just finally did.  Everyone was so friendly, it was great.  I worked on my art journal cover and got this baby layout done of Amelia when she was 3 months old.

I wanted the main colour scheme scheme to be teal and that vibrant pink.  As you can see, it is the colour of her dress and my shirt.

All of the metal embellishments are from the Ambrosia Trinkets set that I believe was just released at CHA by Bo Bunny.  Jen had just gotten her order in and they hadn’t even been put out yet.

I took a paper distresser to the picture frames and title circle, then applied some brown ink so you could see it a little better.

I then went through my stash of leftover papers to find some in the colour scheme and used different sized punches to make the circle border that runs along the bottom of the photos.  Such a great way to use up scraps.

The adorable pink rosette trim is called bloomers and is from Webster’s Pages.  I have it in a few different colours and have been dying to use them.  You would think I was sponsored by Webster’s the amount I mention them, haha.

Another layout done for the baby book.  YEY!!!

Scrappy Sunday – Circus Themed Birthday

Circus Themed Birthday

Our little Amelia just turned a year old last week and I decided to do a circus theme.  My inspiration for the colours came from this Lion Coffee which was given to us by my sister in law.

I made a circus banner out of cardstock…

and some tissue paper balls (for which I have found a quick Youtube tutorial here for you).  I only used 5 sheets of tissue and then cut it in half once I had folded it all up.  I also just used fishing line to tie them up so they looked like they were floating.

I got some old school popcorn and hot dog containers from the dollar store.

Along with some plastic animals to decorate the cupcakes and cake with.

I used some scrapbook paper to create the cones for the home made sweet potatoe and regular fries.

Circus Themed Scrapbook Layout

As this was such a big event I decided to dedicate three pages to it instead of the usual two.  I printed my photos at home onto matte paper and they don’t seem as nice.  Maybe I need to try a new brand.

I used the decor from the party for accents in the layouts.  I also tried to tone down the colour a bit with a little black scattered throughout.  I even took my new chicken wire stamp and applied it to the background in some areas and did a little doodling.

Boy, lots of pics today.  Have a great week!!!!

Scrappy Sunday and Giveaway!!

Hi there, I trust you all had a fabulous weekend.  I, unfortunately, am back to work tomorrow after being off for over a year on maternity leave.  I might not go to bed so I do not have to wake up in the morning to leave my wonderful home and baby girl :(

On to more positive and happy thoughts, the cottage.  Some of you may recognize some of the photos as I did a blog post about our week away here.  Thought it was about time I scrapbooked (is that even a word?) it.

I had this gorgeous nautical themed page that looked like a postage stamp (which is from Webster’s Pages) but I only had one and wanted to do a two page layout.  I really wanted to incorporate it so, I cut it into two pieces.  A third I put on the far left side and the rest on the right page.  YEY!  I love the way it brings out the yellow flowers in the picture of me holding Amelia.

Most of the accessories are from Webster’s except for the ribbon which is from Stampin Up! and the title which was done with my Cricut (man I love that machine).

Now for the giveaway part…all you have to do is leave a comment on how you incorporate a single page into a double page spread and I shall pick one at random and send you a little goodie bag of Webster’s Pages stuff.  They seem to be my favourite lately so I thought I would share them with you.  Don’t you just love free stuff???

Scrappy Sunday

It’s Scrappy Sunday time again!

This week I have continued on with Ava’s book and have done a layout of the two proud grandma’s holding their new granddaughter for the first time.  I tried to keep it fairly simple, but added a bit of bling with the glass and rhinestone baubles.

a close-up of the accessories…

A girl has got to have some bling.  The second one is of her first Christmas - she was so tiny…

and a close-up of the gorgeous flower…

Almost this entire layout was done with Webster’s Pages products.  Their products lend themselves well to little girl pages.  SOOO cute!!  As this scrapbook is only 8X8 I have been able to do a couple layouts at a time.  Not sure if I will be able to keep that up for the 12X12 ones.  Hopefully though, at this rate I shall be caught up in no time, haha.

Hopefully this inspires you to get cracking!  Have a great Monday tomorrow!
